The object subtraction operation creates a new shape from the main object area that does not overlap the object area to subtract. The new shape captures the fill and contour properties of the last selected object.

To perform a subtraction of objects
Perform the following operations:
Select the objects to subtract.

Press and hold SHIFT and select the main object.

Choose the Operations ยป Boolean » Subtract command or click the button in the toolbar.
The new object, which is created from the area of the main object that does not overlap the area of the object to be subtracted, acquires the fill and outline properties of the main object.
